DIY Foot Rest for Shower: The GoShelf System

When designing our one-of-a-kind shower solution, we were careful to account for both aesthetics and practicality. The result is highly functional stone corner shelves that can be installed at any horizontal grout line, available in more than a dozen styles to accommodate different shower designs. 

Once you’ve compared the options and landed on your best match, you’ll be ready to order your GoShelf kit. We recommend purchasing a few shelves so you have plenty of storage space for shampoo, soap and more, especially if you’re planning to leave one empty to use as a foot rest for shower. 

Whether you decide to buy a single shelf or to create a system with multiple shelves, simply follow these steps to mount each one:

1. Determine the location where you’d like the shelf to float (in any corner, at any grout line). Using a tape measure, mark the four spots where you’ll need to remove a bit of grout to insert the wall anchoring plates. 
2. Remove around a 3”-wide channel of grout – using a handheld grout saw or oscillating power tool of your choice – at each place you marked. Aim for a depth of approximately ½”, so that the anchoring plates fit snugly and go about halfway into the wall.
3. One by one, dampen each anchoring plate, add a small amount of glue to both sides on the half that will go into the wall and then push them into place.
4. Squeeze some glue into the GoShelf channel, then line it up and slide it onto the anchoring plates until they are covered and it’s tight against the walls.

Let the glue dry for a few hours, and you’ll be ready to use your new GoShelf for storage or to lean on while shaving! To add more shelves, just follow this method over again. (You can find a full, detailed how-to on our website.)
